Just today I was trying to look for a particular gadget and the pictures won't load. Not the ones on the side, or the ones in the grid. The forums load fine, as seems to any photo/graphic within them. Just the pictures of the things in the gallery itself. I suppose that there is a cache to dump someplace, but I don't know which. I've never had to do that before.

The sad part is my cute little Toshiba portable is speaking bad words as of late and I can't afford the $75+ USD to get another. A couple months ago my old clunker external just gave up with not even as much as a good-bye.  So, I'm soon to be without my 500GB Toshiba and have nothing to replace the 500GB WD that I used to mirror it with.  So, brilliant me has the idea to perhaps use some type of online service. I have one that promises 500GB fro free. It's an FTP type of se...

So. I see that there is a download in my list for Start8 and since I've been using Windows 8 more with the beta testing for the game I am participating I download it. Go to install and run it and get this message: "This version of Start 8 for Windows 8 has expired"

Now what? And if it is expired, why is it in my list?

Nice looking mare. That jock will never live it down though.

BLACK Caviar has kept her unbeaten record winning the Diamond Jubilee stakes at Royal Ascot.

But for a few strides near the line, the whole nation held its breath for a moment when jockey Luke Nolen eased up 75m out and was nearly caught by French mare Moonlight Cloud.

Nolen realised his error and shook the reins in the final three strides as Black Caviar held on to score a narrow and famous win.

Argh Firefox, it's pretending to be Windows 8. It has a pseudo Speed Dial that is 3x3 and I can't see any way to adjust. I use the REAL Speed Dial with 10 tabs and some with 30 squares. They are going to tell me I only need nine squares?  Oh sigh, Firefox what did you have to betray your very core.

When I worked in the medical field we SWORE on our mother's grave that the lunies come out with the full moon. Here we've had the WTF guy, the UNINSTALLED guy, and one that insults the Memorial Day holiday (which I still object to the USA putting on a Monday). I know it is supposed to be a time of remembrance and contemplation, but gee wiz. Eat a BBQ hotdog and watch the ATVs on the sand. I'd say "drink a beer" but beer ain't allowed on the dunes here.

Wish I had a hotdog emot...

May 20, 2012 is an annular total solar eclipse. The last visible in the US was 18 years ago, the next will be 14 years from now. The path takes it right over the USA and I guess people living in Oz with have a good view too. I live in Oregon, of course it is going to rain. There are some wonderful articles about the phenomenon and how to observe it safely. I remember as a little girl turning my back to the sun an...

I put three of my slide-show type screen savers on the server. One was rather old but the other two I had worked on recently. I might re-work them some in the future, but they are pleasant as they are. One is very large file size due to the number of photos and because it has music. Music always adds size. The subjects are Favorites (travel and such) Roses (lots of roses) and Flowers (not as many, the oldest one) Please check them out and let me know how you like them.

Before anyone spouts off with, "Excel isn't a spread sheet" I know that. If I could afford it I would get Access. I'm remotely familiar with Access having created a couple of commercial apps in the far past. But, alas, I have Excel. I taught and acted as a instructor aide, also in the far past, so I can do just about anything normal (did I say NORMAL?) with Excel. If I can't do them, then I know it can be done and research them. We're talking plan ol' office type stuff, nothi...

Maurice Bernard Sendak (June 10, 1928 – May 8, 2012) was an American writer and illustrator of children's literature. He was best known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963.

“And the wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws.”

Is spam a normal part of this forum? Especially spam spam? (Like three separate ones on the same thing?) If so, is there a way to hide a particular forum from what I see so they don't cover up what I think is important? I've been reading for a few months and don't remember spam before.

It was one whale of a stormy day here on the coast of Oregon (USA) and I decided I'd go south along the coast to see if I could get any wave shots. I'd gotten about as far south as I was going to have daylight for and only had high winds and frazzled waves to shoot so I hadn't taken much. Stopping at a tourist/rest area place I was looking at the churning surf and something caught my eyes as it came zipping around a rock as it came from the harbor. After swearing at the fellow for ha...

What is truly an irritation is that too many blogs either do not show the actual date of a blog entry or, if you are lucky at all, shoehorn it into some remote corner. Usually after the sponsor's banner ad.

So, I find a neat bit on something technical. It describes a product or software that perhaps I would really like. The date up at the top is today's date though (big indication of possible outdated data) If I am lucky there is a comment dated three years ago along the lines of, "Ge...

I've got a couple DesktopX fishes and a couple butterflies that  occupy my dual monitor desktop. They are set to stay on top of things so I can enjoy them when I have a couple full window apps running or a bunch of small windows. They move around and most of the time I have a tough time even locating them - until I open a window I need to be interactive with. They never bother internet browser, never bother graphic viewer, I forget they are even around when file hoping through windows e...

I live in the suburbs. For over 20 years I lived so far out in the forest that it took half an hour to get to town, and if there had been a storm recently I wasn't getting there at all. Two weeks without electricity was not a burden. I miss living in the forest. Anyhow, I live in town now. My husband and I can't afford to live on our own (damn economy) so we live at a woman's house and trade paying some of the bills for a room. So, for the birds.

The last few days the wild birds h...
