Is spam a normal part of this forum? Especially spam spam? (Like three separate ones on the same thing?) If so, is there a way to hide a particular forum from what I see so they don't cover up what I think is important? I've been reading for a few months and don't remember spam before.

It comes and goes just like other forums. If you see it, report it.

It appears to have gotten a whole lot more prolific in the last month or so. Reporting works but it would be nice if they would cut it out!

Just about every weekend the forums get hammered by spam...Jafo is pretty good about cleaning it up though.

bit of spam always shuffling through.... gets shuffled off pretty fast....

The site gets SPAM every day. Jafo, Hankers, & ID keep it under control when they're available.

Not to change the topic, but I demand to know one thing: How the hell does Sydneysiders come up with those amazing gifs?

Not only that but earth's rotation considered, her timing is truly impeccable. That means she's got a veritable "Library of Alexandria" of them on hand, duly stored, indexed and backed up (probably dusted, waxed and buffed to a pristine sheen as well).

So, "I have an inquiring mind and I want to know": How many of those little boogers do you have and what are your principal sources?

Worst in recent times was 28 out of 50 of the 'recent posts' being spam.

We handle them so [mostly] you don't even notice.

One day I expect it will be an Olympic sport..... hopefully with as much blood-letting as Gladiatorial 'sport' was.....

SPAM is getting more prevalent everywhere it seems, even on telephones.  We have a thing in the USA where you can add your telephone number to the National Do Not Call registry, and no one is supposed to call you with the old "Buy this...", "Free that..." type of crap. Unfortunately it does not work, people keep calling all the time and you cannot even report them to the Federal Communications Commission because the number coming in is faked, like "888-000-2679"! I got 7 calls on my two different phone numbers just the other day! Lower you bills! Refinance your mortgage! Hell, half or more of the ad's on the Internet are all SPAM now. I wish I could find out who these people are, I would make sure they suffer before they die! (Well, not literally).

The spammers have recently noticed the forums again which is why we have had some spam attacks recently.

When they show up we deal with them as quickly as possible, sometimes within seconds of the posts being made.  I just took out an account that I think was due to be used for spamming.

Hopefully the spammers will get the message soon that their rubbish stays on the site for so little time that its not worth the effort, and going forward we plan to enhance our anti spam systems to make it quicker for us to delete the spam on mass when it arrives and also to prevent it ever showing up in the first place.

The problem is apparently some of these adverts work on some people.  If nobody purchased anything after seeing the ads then the spammers would not waste their time on it.  People need to know that a single mum in your area did not invent some teeth whitening trick, there isn't a weird old trick to lose weight fast, and you are not the 100000th visitor and have not won an ipad!

Now I am off to transfer money to claim my share of the assets of a now dead long lost distant relative from Nigeria who apparently had millions and didn't leave a will....

Asking how to install it isn't a spam though, they may well be someone who found the webpage via google but does not understand the need for say WindowBlinds to use the skin.

Spam is a normal part of forums, and unfortunately it won't go away.  We've taken some steps to eliminate some, and have some ideas to implement in future updates.
